MY RESPECT FOR RUSSELL BRAND JUST SKYROCKETED.

I am not homophobic, and I do not support many of the Westboro Baptist Church’s tactics. I don’t know what I believe as far as queer people and religion. Personally, I could not give less of a fuck. But I have to say that when they’re calm and not making music videos and picketing soldiers funerals; in a situation like this one they made a whole lot of sense.

My entire childhood and young adult hood was spent listening to messages like this one. From my family, and pastors and other saints it was basically boiled down to “Sin is going to land you into hell and living your life right by God will warrant a reunion in heaven. If you love someone, share with them the knowledge of Jesus and how to live right so that you can see them again.” 

And I mean it’s a good message. I just…I don’t know. I’m conflicted and kind of worried that even the Westboro Baptist Church is starting to make sense.

With Will Ferrell hosting SNL this weekend, I thought that I would post one of my personal favorite sketches he’s done.  This is from the season 21 (1995-1996) Chevy Chase episode.  Will and Cheri Oteri play a couple at a prom from the 1970s.  It’s only those two in the sketch and it is just Will and Cheri at their best

Is Rachel Berry on the Verge of a Breakdown?

I am in a feminist fury right now!!!!

This scene is one of the many reasons why we still need feminism. Because a mainstream television show thinks its perfectly okay to tell their young, female viewers that dreaming big is dumb and will lead to failure. That they should find a boy and dream about prom and weddings. That the most important days in their lives will have nothing to do with their merit or drive, and everything to do with their relationship to men.

Fuck that!!!!! I wish I had a way to tell all the kids who watch Glee and believe this crap that the only way you fail is if you stop trying. That girls are worth so much more than being arm candy. That girls deserve more than a prom and a wedding- they deserve a full life. Ryan Murphy, you are a misogynist, and it is now painfully clear that you believe women are objects meant to be looked at and acted upon, and not people who act and deserve stories of their own.

What adds insult to injury (excellent post above, by the way) is that in her voice over, she says that she is 18 years old.  NO SHE’S NOT!  She was born December 18, 1994, making her 17…  These writers are an embarrassment.  They just don’t even care.  Did no one remember this minor detail and bother to fact check to make sure her age was right?  RIB stopped caring 2.5 seasons ago and now it’s 100% about pandering to the loudest, most verbally abusive fanbase.  Pathetic.
